Cats and rabbits would reside in fancy little houses They’d be dressed in shoes and hats and trousers In a world of my own All the flowers would have very extra special powers They’d sit and talk to me for hours When I’m lonely in a world of my own There’d be new birds Lots of nice and friendly howdy-do birds Every one would have a dozen bluebirds In a world of my own I could listen to a babblin’ brook and hear a song that I could understand I keep wishin’ it could be that way Because my world would be a wonderland

Lonely One 05:51
When you feel blue and the world’s unforgiving And life itself seems it’s not worth living You’re a victim of unrequited love And your soul cries in vein lonely one You played the game with the odds all against you But had you known that romance had a curfew You are out of bounds Makin’ all the rounds And your soul cries in vein lonely one A look through an album while you reminisce the holidays London and Spain A teardrop in silence will slowly remind you they’ll never happen again So don’t forget there’s always tomorrow And maybe fate sees and end to your sorrow So you slowly weep and cry yourself to sleep As you pay for your play lonely one

What To Do 05:56
How can you pretend this didn’t happen Acting like you never did before Seems to me I know this type of action Seen it time and time again once more Think of all the people who could grow With the information that we know Start anew, tell the truth What to do, what to do, what to do Round and round the earth is gently spinning How can we mistreat the world this way With garbage dumped upon the lovely nature We must take more action every day Think of how exciting it would be When the truth is told and all set free All are one, you and me Set us free, let us be, finally free Set us free let us be finally free

There ought to be a moonlight saving time so I could love that man of mine Till the birdies wake and chime good morning There ought to be a law in clover time to keep that moon out over time To keep each lover’s lane in rhyme till dawning You’d better hurry up hurry up hurry up get busy today You’d better croon a tune to the man in the moon and here’s what I’d say There ought to be a moonlight saving time so I could love that man of mine Till the birdies wake and chime good morning In January the nights are very long and that’s alright In the happy June come a honeymoon time, days are longer than the nights In moon-time season the moon’s a reason for every cuddle and kiss But when the days are longer than the nights are shorter and something must be done about this There ought to be a moonlight saving time to make them morning glories climb An hour later on the vine each morning You sort of need a moon to bill and coo An old back porch a birch canoe A parlor lamp in June won’t do I’m warning I’ve heard the farmer say I’ll make hay while the sun shines above But when the day is done you can ask the farmer’s son, it’s time to make love Birdies fly with new ambition Spring is in their song Soon you’ll find yourself a-wishin’ the days were not so long But if my thought is not defined listen while I speak my mine There ought to be a moonlight saving time so I could love that man of mine Till the birdies wake and chime good morning There ought to be…there ought to be a moonlight saving time

If you’ve never been in love and you’re longing for the happiness it brings try your wings If you’re hungry for the sound of a lover saying sentimental things, try your wings Even the tiniest bluebird has to leave it’s nest to fly What a bluebird can do you can do too if you try If you’ve always had a dream but you’ve been afraid it won’t come true hitherto Fall in love and you will find it’s just what you’ve been dreaming of First love never comes twice So take this tender advice When it comes try your wings and fly to the one you love

about

We went in the studio on March 9th, 2023 and played these pieces LIVE!
Here is the write up our label La Reserve wrote about the record:

There’s an element of magic to Kelly Green’s music. How else do you explain the enchantment of her newest album Seems?

Green is a rare, genuine dual threat talent, a pianist-vocalist equally captivating behind the keys and on the microphone. She’s a savvy live performer with her own concert series (more on that later) and a gift for connecting with audiences.

And as Seems demonstrates, she’s a writer of striking imagination, whether on originals or arrangements of carefully selected revivals she makes entirely her own.

“Seems is my most polished, most thoughtful work to date,” she shares. “The album blurs the lines between traditional and modern, attempting to unify the different ‘camps’ of jazz listeners.”

Chief among Green’s spells are her arrangements, whose structures unfold in a series of surprises.

It is not enough for her and her band to break into a galloping swing (which they’re excellent at). She has them start, stop on a dime, offer up an ear-catching interlude, and then zoom off again.

They take particular pleasure in playing with the form on their instrumental theme “By The Way,” which they never perform the same way twice.

Seems is also very much a philosophical statement, a passionate reflection from Green on the common bond we all share as living creatures.

“Separateness is an illusion,” she can be heard saying in promotions for the album. “Things are not as they seem…with a closer look, all are one.”

That sentiment extends across the entire tracklist, which touches on themes of spirituality, self-love, and our connection with the world around us. If you need a reminder to care for yourself and tend to your own wellbeing, we encourage several listens of “World Of My Own” and “Try Your Wings.”

Green’s environmental consciousness can be heard on compositions like “Street Cleaning,” which was inspired by a noisy NYC Sanitation truck that woke her up one morning.

“Instead of just the cleaning sound, it had a rhythm,” she recalls. “So I ran to the bathroom quickly and recorded it on a voice memo, then transcribed it on my ride in the subway.”

Beyond all else, Green simply has a natural warmth as a performer. This will be familiar to anyone who’s attended her concert series at her performance space Green Soul Studios in Queens — co-run alongside her husband and bassist Luca Soul Rosenfeld — where guests intermingle and chat like friendly neighbors.

Speaking of friends, we’d be remiss not to mention Green’s band, with whom she shares a telepathic connection. Evan Hyde (drums), the aforementioned Luca Soul Rosenfeld (bass), Elijah Thomas (flute), and featured guest Rich Perry (tenor saxophone) — Green’s writing takes inspiration from their instrumental voices, and they execute her arrangements flawlessly.

“Inviting listeners into this world of our own,” Green says, reflecting on her vision for the group’s music. “To bring people together and create a sense of joy and happiness. We’re celebrating differences as positive. We’re most powerful when we’re united!”
